01

Ideation

We were interested in finding an object that best represents the state and status of controlling motorised curtains or blinds. We ran a Gesture Elicitation study and presented the flower to participants to ideate on how they would use it as an alternative control.

02

Analysis

The concept was then derived from the results of our Gesture Elicitation Study. We extracted insights about the relevance of plants as an indicator/representation of comfort for living organisms. Plants need light, humidity and clean air, so why not use an artificial plant as a discreet input and output medium?

03

Sketch and Prototyping

Mechanical movement was the necessary interaction method. We used a potentiometer to send payloads to the server to control the motorised curtain.

04

Finish

The potentiometer was affixed to the plant stem, and a wire was attached to hold the leaf. Both are hidden to give the plant a natural look.
